Our Mission
Our mission at Widow’s Oil Pantry is to bring food to anyone who is in need and offer everyone the brotherly love and kindness that Christ instructed all men and women to give freely.
About Us
Widow’s Oil Pantry is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization operated by a loyal and hardworking volunteer staff. We have been blessed with both food and monetary donations so that we can continue to serve the Harris Park Community.
Our History
With the help of a Denver-based food ministry, the Harris Park Food Bank first opened its doors to local residents in February 2007. In the early stages, it served 7 families a week. Now known as the Widow’s Oil Food Pantry, it has grown into a pantry serving many families every week in both Park County and Jefferson County.
Our Name: “Widow’s Oil”
In the Old Testament of the Bible, in the first book of Kings, chapter 17, there is an account of a widow and the prophet Elijah who lived during a major drought in the land, during the reign of the wicked and evil king Ahab. This widow had given up hope for her and her son because they only had a small amount of oil and flour, just enough to make one last loaf of bread.
God sends the prophet Elijah to her, telling her that God will sustain her and her household. “For thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘The jar of flour shall not be spent, and the jug of oil shall not be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain upon the earth.’”
God will provide.
